Jean Ellen Castleberry, 82, of Robins, Iowa, passed away, Wednesday, December 13, 2017, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Visitation: 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Monday, December 18, 2017, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 19, 2017, at Faith Bible Church, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Spring Grove Cemetery, Covington, Iowa.
Jean was born on December 13, 1935, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the daughter of George and Dorothy (Louhier) Stephenson. She was united in marriage to Daniel E. Castleberry on December 31, 1952, in Hamilton, Ohio. Jean was a homemaker who enjoyed hand quilting and sewing. She was a seamstress for the Cedar Rapids Paramount Theater for many years. Jean was an avid reader and her joy of cooking complimented her impeccable hostess skills. She was devoted to adolescent and teenage youth whether it was teaching Sunday school or opening up her home for the kids to have a place to hang out. Jean loved to watch DVD’s of her favorite classic shows. She enjoyed tent camping with her family until upgrading to RV traveling. The couple loved to travel and would visit family all over the United States and internationally.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 65 years, Daniel E. Castleberry of Robins, Iowa; children, Vickie (Frank) Edwards of Ankeny, Iowa, Cindy (Kurt) Anderson of Winterset, Iowa, Connie (David) Ostroot of Cedar Rapids, Douglas (Erinn) Castleberry of Carlisle, Iowa;thirteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews including Sharma and Gary Young of Hamilton, Ohio, Van Castleberry of Mariemont, Ohio, Kevin Castleberry of Gamer, North Carolina, Captain Kenneth “Nicki” Buell of Ohio, and Barbara Jean (Dale) Hutchison of Ohio.
Jean was preceded in death by her son, Steven Castleberry of Albuquerque, New Mexico; sister, Jane Buell of Columbus, Ohio; and her brother, Donald Whitacre of Mayo, Florida.
