J. D. McVay, 79, of 1005 9th Street N.W. has gone home to be with our Lord, Wednesday, March 5, 2003. Services: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 8, 2003, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point, by the Rev. Charles Stevens. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 7, 2003, at the funeral home. Burial: Center Point Cemetery, Center Point.
Survivors include his wife, Berniece; a son, David McVay of Cedar Rapids; seven daughters, Jeanette Pearson, Robin Hootman, Nancy Perry, Sherry McVay, Peggy Stangland, Judy Lovelett, all of Cedar Rapids, and Barbara Thompkins of Center Point; 18 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Dennis; and three grandchildren.
J.D. was born September 22, 1923, the son of James and Ruth Hunter McVay, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. On October 30, 1952, he married Berniece Sterns in Kahoka, Missouri. J.D. retired from work as a laborer in construction and was associated with Brown & Dyer Construction. He was a member of the Laborer Local 243. J.D. loved to share stories and was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting and received awards for archery. J.D. will be missed greatly.
