Janice Ann Hughes

Janice Ann Hughes, 58, of 3925 37th Avenue SW Unit A, Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, December 30, 2004, at St. Luke?s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a long courageous battle with lung cancer. Services: 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 3, 2005, at Salem United Methodist Church, by the Rev. Linda Bibb. Friends may visit from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, January 2, 2005, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her mother, Arlene Thomas of Cedar Rapids; her daughters, Jodie McMurrin (Scott) of Fairfax and Jessaca Hughes of Cedar Rapids; two grandchildren, Brandon and Melissa McMurrin; two sisters, Rebecca Greenman and Barbara Croll (Jerry Jelinek), both of Cedar Rapids; a very special niece, Shannon Greenman; a great-nephew, Austin Greenman; her children?s father, James Hughes, Jr.; and a special sister in Christ, Deb Black.
She was preceded in death by her father, Racene Thomas.
Janice was born May 21, 1946, the daughter of Racene and Arlene Bowler Thomas, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. For 40 years, she worked at Square D, retiring August 1, 2004. Janice was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church and Cedar Rapids Emmanus Community. With her faith and spirit, she inspired all her family and friends with her laughter and joy for life. Her faith taught us all how to live and die. She will be greatly missed by all.
