Janet M. Wishniewsky, 90, of Marion, died Monday, August 27, 2012, at her home. Funeral Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 1, 2012 at First Presbyterian Church, Marion. The family will greet friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, August 31, 2012 at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her children, Gladys (Tony Ford) Clearwaters of Bethesda, MD, JoAnne (Mike) Hebert of Cedar Rapids, and Don Wishniewsky of Marion; five grandchildren, Brian Clearwaters, Deb (Andrew McIntyre) Clearwaters, Michelle (Bob) Laufenburger, Christy Hebert, and Michael Hebert; three great-grandchildren, Jason, Kayla, and Allie; and two great-great-grandchildren, Leah, and Treydon.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and two brothers, Richard and Joe Derflinger.
Janet was born March 30, 1922, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Clyde and Gladys (Vowles) Derflinger. She graduated from Marion High School with the Class of 1940, and was a trombone player in the high school band. Janet married Wencil “Wish” Wishniewsky on April 17, 1941, in Kahoka, MO. Wencil died September 30, 2005. Janet was an accomplished homemaker, and also worked at Weber’s Paint store in Marion, Rockwell Collins, Bausch & Lomb, and at Armstrong’s designing custom draperies. She had a talent for artistic design. Janet was instrumental in starting the Marion, YMCA. She enjoyed square dancing, bowling, and was a Lindale Mall Walker.
Janet was a 76 year member of First Presbyterian Church in Marion, and was their longest living member. She loved music, and participated in both the choir and bell choir, served on many committees, and was an Elder and Deacon at First Presbyterian. Janet was also a member of the Eastern Star, and the Rebekah Lodge.
