Janet E. Rohwedder, 85, of Des Moines, Iowa, formerly of Earlville, Iowa, died Friday, June 10, 2005, at the Mercy Hospice, Johnston, Iowa, following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday, June 14, 2005, at the United Parish Church, Earlville, Iowa, with Rev. Ross Wyman officiating. Friends may call from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Monday at the Clifton-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Earlville, and for an hour before services on Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Earlville.
Janet was born on March 20, 1920, in Colesburg, Iowa, the daughter of Les & Agnes (Nebel) Koeneke. She graduated in 1937 from Colesburg High School, Colesburg, Iowa. On August 14, 1940, Janet was united in marriage to Harlan Rohwedder in Charles City, Iowa. The couple raised their family in Earlville and were active in the community. Janet worked at the Ertl Toy Company in Dyersville for many years. Upon her retirement, Janet resided in Des Moines for the past 23 years. She recently moved to 3801 Grand Avenue Assisted Living in Des Moines and enjoyed her new home immensely.
Family and friends were first in Janet?s life. She was a devoted mother and friend to all she met. Her kindness, generosity and sense of humor were evident in her daily life. She was especially proud to help support her children?s higher education. Janet was an excellent baker and afghan maker. She was a sports enthusiast who loved her Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes!
Janet is survived by her two sons, Allen Lee "Sam" Rohwedder (Kathy Sharpless) of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and Roger Dean Rohwedder (Connie) of Ankeny, Iowa; her daughter, Cindy Jo Velline (Harold) of Grinnell, Iowa; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two brothers, Carroll (Dorothy) Koeneke and Bud (Alita) Koeneke all of Manchester; and a nephew, Kevin Koeneke of Cedar Rapids.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Les & Agnes Koeneke; her husband, Harlan Rohwedder in 1992; and a niece, Paula Koeneke.
In lieu of flowers, Janet?s family suggest memorials be directed to the Earlville Little League, Camp Sunnyside in Des Moines, or Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa.
