Janet M. Nugent, 91, of Robins, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, May 31, 2022, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The family will greet friends and family from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 4, 2022, at Gospel Light Baptist Church at 305 2nd Avenue in Marion, Iowa. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the church, conducted by Assistant Pastor Joel Bible from Gospel Light Baptist Church and Assistant Pastor Jason Felt from Lighthouse Baptist Church in Theodore, Alabama. Burial will follow at Oak Shade Cemetery in Marion. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion is assisting the family.

Janet was born on August 17, 1930, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Marty and Mildred (Henderson) Smith. She was a 1948 graduate of Franklin High School in Cedar Rapids. Janet was united in marriage to Thomas F. Nugent on October 11, 2003, in Marion. She worked as a Feed Broker for Jones & Coontz Inc. for over 30 years. Janet was a member of Gospel Light Baptist Church. She was an avid dog lover, liked to travel, and treasured time spent with her family. Janet will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Janet is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband of 18 years, Tom Nugent of Robins; three children, Jeff (Nancy) Reed of Ames, Iowa, Marion Reed of Anamosa, Iowa, and Robin (Larry) Bible of Central City, Iowa; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter-in-law, Barb Reed; and two previous husbands, Marion Reed and William Whiting.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Janet’s memory may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
