Janet L. Gardner, 76, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, December 5, 2006, at St. Luke?s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a long illness. Services: 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 8, 2006, at St. Mark?s United Methodist Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Gary Hoyt. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, December 7, 2006, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids and also one hour before the service at the church on Friday. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Howard; her children, Linda (Gary) Hinzman and their children, Lisa Howard, Paula & Sarah Hinzman, Nancy (Steve) Schade and their children, Josh and Jenna, and Glenn Gardner (Kelly Murphy) and their children, Brianna Gardner and Alyssa Hamilton; and three great-grandchildren, Dylan, Riley, and Autumn.
Janet Louise Cheadle was born September 9, 1930, in Cedar Rapids, the beloved daughter of Glenn and Esther (Dunahugh) Cheadle. She grew up in Marion, Newton and LaSalle, Illinois. On June 27, 1953, Janet was united in marriage to Howard Gardner. She worked in food service at Taft Middle School for many years until her retirement. Janet was a member of St. Mark?s United Methodist Church, the Society of Mayflower Descendants, and the Blue & White Pottery Club. She greatly enjoyed spending time with her family, antiques, playing cards, and an occasional trip to the casino. Janet was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be missed.
