Jane F. Hamlett, 48, of 1350 H Avenue NE, died Thursday, October 16, 2003, at St. Luke?s Hospital, following a courageous battle with cancer. Services: 1:30 p.m., Monday, October 20, 2003, at Immaculate Conception Church, by Father Karl Glovik. Friends may call from 2-6 p.m., Sunday, October 19, 2003, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, with a 4 p.m., rosary. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Brett; two sons, Nathan and Nicholas of Cedar Rapids; her parents, Leonard and Donna Hrdlicka of Cresco, Iowa; a sister, Jan and husband Bill Hennessey and daughter Kate of Yorkville, Illinois; her brothers, Jerry and wife Julie Hrdlicka and daughter Megan of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Jeff and wife Rita Hrdlicka and son Frank of Protivin, Iowa, and Jack and wife Maureen Hrdlicka and children, Jenna and Jacob of Decorah, Iowa. Also surviving are numerous in-laws, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and multitudes of friends. She had a special place in her heart for her 12 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Frank and Rose Hrdlicka and Julius and Mayme Bouska.
Jane was born October 8, 1955, in New Hampton and grew up in Cresco, Iowa. She graduated from Mount Mercy College in 1977 with a degree in Nursing. She started her career at St. Luke?s Hospital in Cedar Rapids as a Cardiac nurse where she continued to practice until her illness forced her to retire in December 1998. This was not only a career for Jane, but a "passion?. Her special gifts of caring, compassion and unselfish giving have touched the "hearts? of many patients, families, coworkers and friends. After leaving St. Luke?s, Jane found ways to help others by volunteering at the Free Medical Clinic in Cedar Rapids. She married Brett Hamlett on May 2, 1981, and had the opportunity and pleasure to raise their two "special? sons, Nathan and Nick. Her "3 boys? were the world to her.
Jane was a supporter of numerous community activities and nonprofit organizations. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Cedar Rapids. Her belief in angels, the power of prayer and keeping a positive attitude was evident in the way she lived her life. Jane?s most special times were when she was with family and friends. She enjoyed doing things for others, cooking, baking her "World?s Best Chocolate Chip Cookies?, collecting Yankee Candles, visiting on the phone or emailing on the computer, writing in her journals, and especially the morning coffees and breakfasts she spent at area restaurants with Brett. Though she will be missed, her spirit and touch will remain with those who were fortunate enough to love her.
