James E. "Ed? Woodard, 87, of 1728 Wilson Avenue S.W., died Friday, November 29, 2002, in Living Center East, Cedar Rapids, following a long illness. Services: 1:30 p.m. Monday, December 2, 2002, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home and Cremation Service. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2-4 p.m. today (Sunday).

Survivors include his wife, Helen; a son, Larry Woodard and wife Robyn; a daughter, Janet Woodard; grandchildren, Rebecca (Jim) Higham, and Jeffrey, Robert and Dustin Woodard; a step-great-grandson, Steven Higham; a sister, Hattie Suits; and a brother, Floyd Davie, all of Cedar Rapids.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers.

Born February 11, 1915, in Naylor, Missouri, to George and Hattie Trimble Woodard, he married Helen Jungjohann on August 27, 1936, in Galena, Illinois. He joined the CCCs in building Palisades-Kepler State Park. Ed worked for Wilson & Co., Williams & Hunting, and was a water purification operator for the Cedar Rapids Water Department.
