James A. Thomas, 60, of 170 Broadway, Springville, died, Wednesday, February 20, 2008, at University of Iowa Hospital & Clinics, Iowa City, following a brief illness. Memorial Service: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 23, 2008, at Springville Presbyterian Church, by Rev. Karen Downey Beals, with military honors. The family will greet friends from 4 - 8 p.m., Friday, February 22, 2008 at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, Iowa. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date.

Survivors include his wife, Anne; sons, Cyrus and Tyler Thomas, both of Grundy Center; a son, Trace Thomas of the U.S. Navy; a step-daughter, Cari (Kelly) Minton of Cedar Rapids; a step-son, Shelby (Amy)Vargason of Blairstown; 3 step-grandchildren, Isaiah & Hope Minton, and Hunter Vargason; a sister, Deanna (Glen) Clark of Salt Lake City, Utah; 2 brothers, Chet and Lloyd Thomas, both of Tempe, Arizona; and a sister, Teresa (John) Cornally of Cedar Rapids.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Jim was born September 14, 1947, the son of Cyrus Dean and Isabelle (Hoge) Thomas, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He married Anne Baker on July 12, 2006 in Cedar Rapids. Jim worked for Menard’s for many years. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1967-1968 and had earned a Bronze Star. Military honors will be provided by Springville American Legion Post #331, of which he was a member.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Jim’s name.
