James W. Stick, 85, of 2309 Upland Dr. SE, Cedar Rapids, died Friday, October 22, 2004, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, following an extended illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 27, 2004, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Bill Harnish. Family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 26, 2004 at the funeral home. Burial: Campbell Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Alice; a son, James (Maura Nelson) Stick, Jr. of Clive, Iowa; a daughter, Shirley (Meredith) Suhr of Phoenix, Arizona; six grandchildren, Lisa Bell, Shelley Sciortino, Nora St. Peter, Emily Stick, Alex Nelson and Kimberly Nelson; four great-grandchildren, Alynsia, Solon, Alex and Alaina; and two brothers, Eugene (Dorothy) Stick of Huston, Texas; and Dean (Esther) Stick of Marion.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Dorothy.
James was born April 25, 1919, the son of Winfield and Esther Tritle Stick, in Alburnett, Iowa. A graduate from the Alburnett High School, he served his country with the United States Army during World War II. On March 12, 1940, James was united in marriage to Alice Davidson in Iowa City, Iowa. He worked at Rockwell Goss in Cedar Rapids, retiring in 1982.
A memorial fund has been established in memory of James.
