James Delmar Romine

James D. Romine, 77, of Center Point, Iowa, died Thursday, September 3, 2015, at ManorCare Health Service, Cedar Rapids. Services: 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 9, 2015, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Urbana, conducted by Father Ardel Barta. Family will greet friends from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, September 8, 2015, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point, with a Rosary at 4 p.m. Burial: St. Mary’s Cemetery, Spencer’s Grove, Iowa.
Survivors include his sons, James Romine of Center Point, and Joseph Romine of Cedar Rapids; sister, Esther Brunt of Oskaloosa; sister-in-law, Donna Romine of California; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Arametta; and brother, Richard “Buck”.
James was born on February 8, 1938, in Keota, Iowa, son of Francis and Violet (Hough) Romine. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and was a founding member of the Center Point Chapter of the Knights of Columbus for the last 17 years. James served in the United States Navy from 1956-1959 as a radar man serving aboard the Destroyer, U.S.S. Willie O’Keefe. He married Arametta Jane Maughan in February of 1960. He worked at Longview Fibre for 33 years and retired as a plant superintendent. James was a prolific gardener, master morel hunter and an avid fisherman enjoying fishing trips with his friends. He was very proud of his prowess at cards, enjoying many table battles with his sons – gin rummy with his son, Joe and cribbage with his son, James. James served as recording secretary on the Center Point Library board for 12 years and contributed his efforts to the expansion currently under way at the Center Point Library.
