Dr. James W. Pink was born July 11, 1929 in Guttenberg, Iowa to Albert and Frances Fassbinder Pink. He passed from this life on March 7, 2018. He had the goal of making it to 90 years of age, and many times he said that he was! He did get close. He attended Loras College and graduated from the University of Iowa Dental College in 1958. He was a veteran of the Navy, serving as a dental technician during the Korean War.

On October 6, 1951 he married Diane M. Robinson in Saint Paul, Minnesota. She preceded him in death in July of 1972.

On December 29, 1973 he married Mary C. (Breitbach) Musel in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Jim practiced dentistry in Manchester, Iowa for 36 years and enjoyed 18 years of wintering with
Mary in Mesa, AZ.

He was a member of St Mary’s Catholic Church in Manchester, and was very devout in his faith. Jim was an avid golfer, winning the Senior Tournament at the Manchester Country Club, and scoring two holes-in-one over the years. He always loved to swim, and swam across the Mississippi river as a youth. He was an Iowa Hawkeye fan and had belonged to the Lions Club, the Iowa Dental Association, and the
Manchester American Legion, from which he received his 60 year membership award. In
September of 2013 he was able to take an Honor Flight trip to Washington, D.C., something he
had very much wanted to do.

He is survived by his wife Mary, and his children Teresa (Tom) Wickman of Germantown Hills, Illinois; Ken (Mary) Pink of Ames, Iowa; Jimmy Pink of Rancho Santa Margarita, California, Susan (Bob) Plemons of Huntley, Illinois, Kathie (Wayne) Volland of Naples, Florida, Steve (Paula) Musel of Hastings, Minnesota, Dave Musel of Manchester, and Jim (Stacy) Musel of Sarasota, Florida, and son-in-law Dr. John Leonard of Longmont, Colorado. Additional survivors include 16 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister Mary Pink of Los Angeles, California.

He was preceded in death by daughter Dr. Karen E. Leonard, his parents, brother Kenneth Pink, sister and brother-in-law Ivanelle and Duane Matt, several in-laws, and his wife Diane.

Jim selflessly donated his body to the University of Iowa, so he will continue to benefit others
after his death.
