James P. “Grandpa” Mulholland, 73, of Marion, Iowa, died Thursday, May 5, 2016, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Visitation: 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2016, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Service: 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Mulholland of Marion; daughters, Maureen Hansen of Marion and Nancy Kintzle (Greg Bulicek) of Delhi, Iowa, and; son, Robert (Dorthea) Terhune of Delhi; seven grandchildren, Janie, Cathy, Chris, Becky, Heather, Cheyenne and Ciera; 16 great-grandchildren; and 12 brothers and sisters.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, James Terhune and David Mulholland; sister, Nancy Mulholland; and great-grandson, Ethan Fawcett.
James was born on March 9, 1943, in Lansing, Iowa, son of Clifford and Bernadine (Whalen) Mulholland. He graduated from Kee High School in Lansing, Iowa, in 1961. James served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He worked at Penick Ford until he was laid off, then he laid concrete for Teamsters Local #238. James later drove truck for many years before starting and owning JMar Trucking Company until 2013 because of his illness. On May 5, 1973, he married Margaret “Peggy” Murray in Mt. Carmel, Illinois. He loved fishing, especially with his best friend, Parker Gallagher, playing softball and watching his children’s sports. James especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.
James was a member of the Knights of Columbus and American Legion Post #298 and attended St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Grandview Care Center and Mercy Hospital in Oelwein who cared for James during his illness, and special thanks to St. Luke’s Hospice.
