James “Jim” J. McCracken, 98, a resident of Higley Mansion Care Center, Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, May 30, 2015. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 2, 2015, at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, by Rev. David Beckman. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the Mass at the church on Tuesday. Burial: Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his daughter, Nancy (Mike) Mulherin of Marion; ten grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Alice Donohoe; two sons, William and Robert McCracken; and daughter, Joan Heald.
Jim was born October 30, 1916, in Chicago, IL, the son of Clarence and Margaret (McFarlane) McCracken. He married Alice Donohoe on January 2, 1937, in Rock Island, IL. Jim worked at LaPlante Scholt, and Allis Chambers prior to becoming a Manufacturing Engineer for Harnishfeger for 43 years until his retirement in 1978. He enjoyed duck hunting, fishing, ice fishing, and was an avid card player. Jim was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids.
