James “Jim” E. Martin, 84, of Cedar Rapids, IA died Friday, July 10, 2015, at Hiawatha Care Center. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 15, 2015, St. Pius X Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, IA, by Father Phil Thompson. The family will greet friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, 2015, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Rosemary of Cedar Rapids; children, Steven (Barbara) Martin of Renton, WA, Kayt (Lorry Stanton) Martin-Stanton of Iowa City, Eileen (Howie Johnston) Mork of Cedar Rapids, and Jim (Joan) Martin of Cedar Rapids; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mary McCloskey of Mount Prospect, IL, Madeline Waite of Chicago, IL, and Eileen Martin of Las Cruces, NM; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Jim was born in Evanston, Illinois, on April 26, 1931, the son of Ellsworth H. and Valerie (Becker) Martin. On October 11, 1958, he married Rosemary Jean Radosta at St. Hilary Catholic Church in Chicago, Illinois. Jim served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He worked as an accountant at National Oats Company. Jim was an active member of St. Piux X Catholic Church. He previously served as a Scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts of America. He valued his service to the American Legion and truly enjoyed the Honor Flight last September.
Jim enjoyed family, golf, gardening, music, and photography.
