James G. Marion, 51, of 3529 Riverside Dr. NE, died Sunday, March 23, 2003, at his home, following a courageous battle with lung cancer. Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2003, at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids by Rev. Mark Osterhaus. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion where a parish vigil service will begin at 7 p.m. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the services at the church on Wednesday. Burial: Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Mary "Mona?; his daughter, Emily; his brother and sisters, Joan Petrich of Chicago, John Marion and wife Penny of Mt. Vernon and Susie Marion of New Hampton; and several in-laws.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Joe; and a sister, Maryann Lemme.
Jim was born October 15, 1951, the son of Wendell M. and Margaret M. (Huegel) Marion in New Hampton. On September 18, 1976, he married Mary Conlan at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Jim worked at LeFebure from 1970-1980. In 1980 he helped start D.A.D. Manufacturing and continued as owner/manager. Jim enjoyed the outdoors and traveling. He was an AOPA pilot and developed a passion for flying his plane.
He actively supported ARC, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, St. Matthew Parish, Blood and Platelet Donor, San Lucas Toliman Parish, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Comp. Systems, Education, Camp Courageous and several others.
A memorial fund has been established in Jim?s memory.
