James N. "Jim? Luse, 75, of 2715 Third Ave., Marion, died Saturday, December 3, 2005, at his home, surrounded by his family, following a courageous battle with cancer. Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 7, 2005, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, by the Rev. Velman L. Luse and Rev. Christine Wagner-Hecht. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 - 8 p.m. Tuesday. Burial: Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion, with military honors.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-five years, Pat; his children, Jennifer Luse and husband Brad Keown of Phoenix, Arizona, Joseph Luse and wife Cynthia of Cedar Rapids, Jean Luse-Lawrence of Marion and Judith Lamoreaux of Weatherford, Texas; a brother, Rev. Velman Luse of Keosauqua; seven grandchildren, Lea (David) Howell, Natalie and Meagan Luse, Adda Lynn and Jayk Lawrence and Audrey and Dylan Lamoreaux; and a stepgreat-granddaughter, Melissa Gervias.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Phyllis Anderson; and a brother, Francis Luse.
Jim was born February 16, 1930, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Francis Edmund Luse and Lula (Fleisher) Luse. He was baptized at First Christian Church in Cedar Rapids. Jim attended Marion High School and at the age of seventeen entered the U.S. Navy and served during the Korean Conflict. On May 27, 1950, he was united in marriage to Patricia Welter at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion. Jim was employed at Monroe Calculating Company for thirty-two years, and then for ten years with the City of Cedar Rapids as Operations Supervisor, retiring in 1995.
Jim was an avid golfer, loved the outdoors and enjoyed woodworking.
Jim was a gentle and dignified man who lived his life for his family. He was always respectful of others and was always willing to help when needed. He touched many lives in many different ways. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
American Legion Post 298 of Marion will provide military honors.
