James J. Langin, 81, a resident of Northbrook Manor Care Center, formerly of Marion, died Tuesday, October 1, 2002, in the care center, following a long illness. Services: 2 p.m. Friday, October 4, 2002, at St. Patrick?s Catholic Church, Neola, Iowa, by the Rev. Richard Gubbels. Burial: Neola Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Neola Post 330. The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. today (Thursday) at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Marion and at the church one hour prior to the service on Friday.
Surviving are his children, Linda Hugh and husband Louie of Ionia, Shelley Beardsley and husband Bob of Peosta and Jolene Baldwin and husband Chuck of Bozeman, Montana; two sisters, Leila West of Charlottesville, Virginia and Frances Wunder of Harlan; a brother, Harry Langin of Neola; three grandchildren, Rochelle Beardsley, Kara and James Baldwin; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Gladys, and a sister, Alice Bock.
James was born the son of Harry C. and Margaret Liddell Langin on June 4, 1921, in Neola. On September 27, 1946, in Neola, he was united in marriage to Gladys Corrin. She died September 21, 1997. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and then attended Capitol Radio Engineering Institute, graduating in 1951. James was employed at Rockwell Collins as a radio test technician for thirty-one years, retiring in 1983. He was a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association, American Legion Marion Post 298, and a former officer and member of Otter Creek Gun Club.
