James “Jim” Kewley, 94, of Marion, passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2016. Graveside services: 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 2, 2016, at Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion, by Reverend John Albertson. Military Honors provided by American Legion Post #298. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion.

He’s survived by his children, Jerry (Jane) Kewley of Hurst, Texas, James (Jeanne) Kewley of Marion, Sharon Kewley of Florida and Jeff (Janette) Kewley of Marion; four grandchildren, Elizabeth (Christian) Owen, Lauren (Zach) Blann, Breanna (Ryan) Hargis and Emily Kewley; and two great-granddaughters, Maddie and Skyler Owen.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Gerry, and Sharon’s lifelong companion, Stanley Tessel.

Jim was born the son of Walter and Bernice (Bentley) Kewley in Galva, Illinois where he grew up on a farm. Jim proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II and through the years was always glad to share stories of the major battles he fought in. In the service he was given the nickname of "Joker” and for good reason, his hearty laugh and quick wit brightened any room. He achieved 32nd degree Mason in Scottish Rites. Jim was a member of the VFW, Rotary and Faith Lutheran Church in Marion. He was very proud of his Manx heritage. His charm, people skills and humor fit well with his life’s calling as a salesman.

Jim enjoyed the simple things in life; a short stack of pancakes, some eggs over easy, love of a good laugh, the sound of which will be sorely missed by all.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Jim’s memory.
