James F. “Jimmy” Sherbon, of Walker, Iowa, passed away on Monday, July 9, 2012, at Crestview Acres Nursing Home in Marion, following a brief illness. Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 12, 2012 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Walker. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, at Murdoch Funeral Home in Walker, where a rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. and scripture service at 7:30 p.m. Burial: Oakshade Cemetery, Marion.
Survivors include one sister, Agnes Stone of Brooklyn, Iowa; numerous nieces and nephews; many great-nieces and nephews; and his beloved cats.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Francis Sherbon, Joseph Sherbon and William Sherbon, who died in infancy; and sisters, Betty Sherbon, Mary LeHew, Loretta Mell and Florence Roberts.
Jimmy was born to James C. and Margaret (Wintringer) Sherbon on January 7, 1935, in Walker, Iowa. He went to Betty’s Grove Country School and graduated from Walker High School. Jimmy lived his entire life in Walker, living on the farm where he was born. He was a truck farmer his entire life, operating a self service country produce market for many years and supplying fresh produce to Hy-Vee’s and other surrounding grocery stores and markets. Jimmy also grew bedding plants for sale in the spring and Christmas trees in the winter.
In his final years, it was his joy to grow produce for distribution at The Catholic Worker House in Cedar Rapids. Jimmy loved watching athletic events on TV, especially his beloved Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes.
He was a devoted, life-long member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Walker.
