Jim L. Mercil, 51, of 6709 Blue Stone Court N.W., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Saturday, September 24, 2011, at his home. Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 27, 2011, at St. Jude Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Mark Reasoner. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Monday, September 26, 2011, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids where a scripture service will be held at 4 p.m. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Diane; parents, John and Bernadette Mercil; children, Michael (Amber) Mercil, Maggie Mercil and James A. Mercil all of Cedar Rapids; step daughters, Dana (Ray) Bolinger of Oelwein and Sarah Regan of Cedar Rapids; and grandchildren, Hannah, Madison, Katelyn, Zonona, Aliana, Harlow, Jaidyn and a grandson on the way. Also surviving are his sisters, Lori (Mark) Slesar of Pewaukee, Wisconsin, and Theresa Mohwinkle of Marion; his brother, John (Angee) Mercil of Marion; mother-in-law, Ruth Waldron of Waukon, Iowa; brothers and sisters-in-law, John (Annette) Waldron of Marion, Mark Waldron of Lakeland, Florida and Anne (Peter) Fuchsteiner of St. Cloud, Minnesota; his beloved nieces and nephews, Gina, Amy, Marty, Melissa, Steven, Lauren, Shannon, Erin, Mark II, Mary, Mathew, Michael, Adam and Carolyn; and numerous aunts and uncles.
Jim was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Mark Mohwinkle; and father-in-law, John Waldron.
Born December 29, 1959, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Jim was the son of John and Bernadette (Erickson) Mercil. He graduated from Linn Mar High School in 1978. In 1980, he married Teri Lee Offerman. They later divorced. On July 30, 1994, he was united in marriage to Diane Regan in Cedar Rapids. In his early years he worked in retail management and later became a successful contractor for Fed Ex Ground.
Jim’s greatest joy was spending time with his family. He was a wonderful husband, dad, grandpa, uncle and friend.
