James (Jim) Hamilton Ford, 74, of Coggon, died Sunday, November 16, at Independence. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 19, 2014, at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Central City . The family will greet friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Central City and again from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the funeral home on Wednesday. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Coggon.

James was born October 8, 1940, in Iowa City. He was raised in the Independence and Rowley area. James married Virginia Kenny on February 19, 1966 in Ryan. They lived at Coggon for over 40 years. James began as a farm hand, and then became a welder at Midwest Metal, Hawk Built, Kraus, and then settled at Cherry Burrell, in Cedar Rapids. James retired from Evergreen Mfg. in 1991. In his younger days he liked working on the land, working on cars, camping, fishing, and traveling to visit relatives. In his later years, he enjoyed relaxing, watching T.V., and supervising all that was going on. He loved his John Deere tractor, Dodge truck, John Wayne movies, the cartoon character, Yosemite Sam, and his Dashchund family, Angel, Maggie, and Pippin. James liked watching his grandchildren at their sporting events.

James is survived by his wife, four daughters, Bernetia Ann (Duane) Vaske, Manchester, Michele Ford (and fiance James), Cedar Rapids, Kimberly Less, Hopkinton, and Stephanie (Corey) Bildstein, Coggon; seven grandchildren, Amber Ford, Eddy Texas, Gunner Vaske and Breanna Vaske, Manchester, Zach Less and Carson Less, Hopkinton, Kyla Bildstein and Caleb Bildstein, Coggon; sisters, Roslyn (Ben) Urban, Henderson, NV, Karen (Robert) Hitchcock, San Diego, CA; a half-sister, Bonnie Knecht, Brookville, IN; step-siblings, Maylon Olsen, Independence, John (Adel) Olsen, Independence, Jean Postel, Independence, Margret Miller, Bertram; and many nieces and nephews.

James was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Donald Ford and Allen Ford; a half-brother, Henry Ford, a half-sister, Deloris Swinton; a step-sister, Marie Marten; and a grandson, Cacey Bildstein.

The family would like to thank the staff of ABCM Rehabilitation Centers East Campus, for the professional care and compassion shown to James and his family.
