James Edward "Jim" Bents

James E. “Jim” Bents, 64, of Geneva Towers, 310 5th Avenue S.E., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, October 7, 2007, at Living Center West, in Cedar Rapids, following a long illness. Memorial Service: 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 11, 2007, at Christ Community United Methodist Church, 3000 Alburnett Road, Marion, by the Rev. Tom Parrot. The family will greet friends from 9-10 a.m., Thursday at the church. Interment: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Arrangements by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his sons, Dorsey “D.J” (Betty) Bents and Donald (Rose) Bents both of Cedar Rapids; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and one brother, John (Mary) Bents of Tipton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sally; two sons, Shawn and Jamie; a sister, Betty Himes; and brother, Donald Bents.
James was born July 4, 1943, in Anamosa, Iowa, the son of Jacob and Gladys (Poovey) Bents. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1962 ?" 1964. He married Grace Kesselring in 1962. They later divorced. On October 7, 1994, he was united in marriage to Sally Kennedy. She died in May of 2001.
James was a member of Christ Community United Methodist Church and Promise Keepers. He enjoyed fishing, making fishing lures, spending time with his grandchildren and going to their school events.
A memorial fund has been established in James’ memory.
