James Dale Jacobson, 73, of 2447 9th Avenue S.W., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Sunday, December 10, 2006, in his home from unexpected heart failure. Services: 10:30 a.m., Thursday, December 14, 2006, at First Lutheran Church by Pastor Dan Kolander. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, December 13, 2006, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Gerayn; two sons, David (Cindy) Jacobson and Dean Jacobson both of Cedar Rapids; two daughters, Julie (Steve) Jilovec of Mt. Vernon and Connie (Bob) Van Winkle of Fairfax; seven grandchildren, Nikki Port, Nicole, Amanda and Cameron Jilovec, Alex Jacobson, and Jacob and Jordan Van Winkle; and one great grandson, Rylan Jilovec. Also surviving are three sisters, Betty Gisleson of Elgin, Margie (Luke) Kuennen of Oelwein and Janice (Bud) Eide of Elkader; sister-in-law, Marlene Wright; and brother-in-law, Don (Sharon) Wullner.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Herbert; a son-in-law, Randy Port; and grandson, Joshua Van Winkle.
James was born on February 24, 1933, in Fayette County to Edwin and Hilda Jacobson. On June 30, 1957 he married Gerayn Jacobson in Iowa City. Jim served in the Army from 1953 to 1955. He worked at Evergreen formerly Cherry Burrell for 39 years retiring in 1995. He was on the Board of Directors of the Cherry Burrell Credit Union and a member of UAW Local #1024. Jim was a Boy Scout Leader for Troop #33. He was also a member of First Lutheran Church where he taught Sunday school.
Jim loved fishing, hunting, woodworking, playing cards and spending time with his grandchildren. He was an awesome handyman and was always willing to help anyone. Jim loved to help others and had many friends. He will be greatly missed.
