James M. Howe, 70, of the Bickford Cottage, Marion, Iowa, died there Thursday, November 22, 2007, following a lengthy illness. Services: 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 26, 2007, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by Father Steven Rosonke. The family will greet friends from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, November 25, 2007, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. A rosary will held at 5:00 p.m. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, at a later date.
Survivors include his sister, Catherine (Gary) Newton of Aurora, Iowa; nieces and nephews, Mary (Jim) Hoeger of Cedar Rapids, Steve (Terry) Hasley of Clearwater, Florida, Chris (Marv) Schaufenbuel of Cedar Rapids, Bob (Barb) Hasley of Cedar Rapids and Tom (Nancy) Hasley of Aurora, Illinois; great nieces and nephews, Drew, Brittany and Melanie Hoeger, Michael Hasley, Janelle Halblom, Dawn Sedlacek, Amy Fisher, Sherri Hasley and Daniel Hasley; several great great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Karen O’Meara Howe; his parents, Lyman and Marian Howe; brother, John Howe; and his sister, Ellen Hasley.
James was born April 9, 1937,in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Lyman and Marian Howe. On September 21, 1968, he was united in marriage to Karen O’Meara. Jim was a laborer for the International Labors Union Local #43 for forty years retiring in 1999. He was a lifelong member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and until recently an avid Aspen Health Club member.
