James Hayden, 68, of Iowa City, Iowa, lost his battle with cancer on Saturday, April 28, 2018, at West Ridge Care Center, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Celebration of Life: 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday, May 4, 2018, with Scripture Service beginning at 6:30 p.m., at The Legacy Center at Murdoch-Linwood, Cedar Rapids. Deacon Richard Manning will officiate.
James was born December 12, 1949, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of John “Jack” and Bernice (Goodwin) Hayden. He graduated from Riverside High School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Parsons College in Fairfield, Iowa. James was a Principal Technical Writer and Editor for General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT) and a subject-matter expert on Federal Student Aid (FSA) with the United States Department of Education. James worked on various FSA contracts for over 30 years. He loved riding his bicycle in and around Iowa City and participated in RAGBRI. James enjoyed watching football and was an avid fan of Liverpool soccer and Chicago Blackhawks hockey. He had many beloved dogs.
James is survived by his mother, Bernice Gainer of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; daughter, Niki Hayden of Cedar Rapids; grandson, Quinn Langfitt of Cedar Rapids; and siblings, Eileen (Mark) Madden and Rick (Karen) Nowak, all of Wisconsin.
He was preceded in death by his father, John “Jack” Hayden.
