James Joseph Hargrafen, 72, formerly of Delhi, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, November 5, 2023, at Iowa Veteran’s Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, November 9, 2023, at Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home in Manchester. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, November 10, 2023, with an Additional Visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. at St. John Catholic Church, Delhi with the Reverend Gabriel Anderson officiating. Burial with Military Honors will take place at St. John Catholic Cemetery, Delhi. Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Manchester is assisting with arrangements.

Jim was born on May 7, 1951, in Oelwein, Iowa, the son of Cletus and Grace (Hilby) Hargrafen. He graduated from Maquoketa Valley High School in 1969 and entered into the United States Army where he proudly served our country. Jim married Mary Boalbey on November 24, 1973, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa; three sons were born to this union, the couple later divorced. He married Pam Hook on August 1, 1992, and the couple later divorced. He worked for Swiss Valley Farms for many years as a truck driver and farmed near Delhi. Jim was a lifetime member of the St. John Catholic Church in Delhi. He enjoyed working on the farm, boating, golfing, driving around to see what was going on in the community, meeting up with friends.

Jim is survived by his sons, Joshua (Susan) Hargrafen of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Jacob (Jodie) Hargrafen of Swisher, Iowa, Nathan (Monique) Hargrafen of Tucson, Arizona; nine grandchildren, Noah, Logan, Jared, Jenna, Joanna, Jace, Braxton, Emery, and Theodore; siblings, JoAnn (Richard) Crain of Marion, Iowa, Linda (Tom) Kepler of Newton, Iowa, Karen (Doug) Dabroski of Earlville, Patricia Boeding, and John (Paula) Hargrafen both of Hopkinton, Janice (Jeff) Eilers of Ryan, Iowa, Kevin (Shelly) Hargrafen of Worthington, Iowa; along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cletus and Grace Hargrafen; sister, Mary Jo; brother-in-law, David Boeding; and nephew, Ryan Crain.

The family would like to thank all those who took special care of Jim over the years, especially the staff at the Iowa Veteran’s Home and Iowa River Hospice. The care and compassion that was given to Jim will never be forgotten.
