James L. Gremmels, 71, of 1215 21st Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids, went to be with the Lord, Friday, February 22, 2008, at St. Luke’s Hospital. Services: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 26, 2008, at Marion Free Methodist Church, by the Rev. Del Bear. The family will greet friends from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday, February 25, 2008, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids and from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church on Tuesday. Burial: 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, Dunkard Cemetery, rural Toddville, with military honors.

Survivors include a sister, Mary Keller of Cedar Rapids; a brother, Michael (Molly) Hochstetler of Cedar Rapids; his niece and nephew, Charity (Grant) Evers of Solon and Mark Keller of Cedar Rapids; his great-nieces and great-nephew, Christina Keller, Brady Evers, Heather Keller and Sarah Smiley; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his loving wife, Anna Mae.

James was born the son of Raymond and Ida May (Freno) Gremmels on December 11, 1936, in Whittamore, Iowa. He served as a medic in the United States Air Force. James was united in marriage to Anna Mae Dykhuizen on August 9, 1974 in Morrison, Illinois. He worked for KwikWay Manufacturing, retiring after 44 years of dedicated service. James was everyone’s favorite cook. He was an active member of the Marion Free Methodist Church and Otter Creek Lions Club.
A memorial fund has been established in memory of James.
Military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 298.
