James E. Ellison, Sr., 66, of Manchester, passed away Thursday, October 8, 2015, at his home surrounded by family. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., October 12, 2015, at Bohnenkamp Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester. Family will greet friends from 2:00 -6:00 p.m., Sunday, October 11, 2015 at Bohnenkamp Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester, and one hour prior to service on Monday. Burial with military rites will be at Oakland Cemetery, Manchester.
Jim was born April 10, 1949, the son of George and Lucille (Mott) Ellison in Central City, Iowa. He entered the U.S. Army in 1967 and served in the infantry during Vietnam. On January 7, 1969, James and Evelyn L. Edwards were united in marriage at the Methodist Church in Wyoming, Iowa. The couple returned to Wyoming upon James’ discharge from the Army in 1976. He then worked as a guard at the Reformatory in Anamosa. In 1979, the couple moved to Manchester where he began working for C & D Construction and later as a farmhand. James went to work for Paris & Sons in Masonville in 1989, and in 1998 for Henderson Manufacturing in Manchester.
Jim was a member of the American Legion Post #259 in Wyoming, Iowa. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and his 1966 Chevy Impala. He loved spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Ellison of Manchester; a son, James (Jenni) Ellison, Jr. of Greeley; two daughters, Wendy Beatty of Manchester, and Tracy Ellison of Manchester; ten grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, with one on the way; a sister, Mary Buck; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Ellison; and many nieces and nephews.
James was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, George Ellison, Jr. and William Ellison; and two sisters, Georgia Edwards and Beverly Krogman.
