Jim was born January 18, 1926, the son of James and Tessie (Ward) Doty, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He served his country with the United States Navy during World War II. On May 1, 1948, Jim was united in marriage to Jane Wallace at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. She died August 7, 2003. For 42 years, he worked for Universal Engineering and 18 years with Sadler Machine Shop after retiring.
Jim greatly enjoyed spending time with family, attending his grandkids’ sporting events and watching Iowa Hawkeye sports. After family, Jim’s second love was fishing. He spent many years on the Cedar River and Lake MacBride and taking fishing trips to Canada with his family and friends.
Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Mercy and especially the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy nurses and staff who so lovingly cared for our dad.
A memorial fund has been established in Jim’s honor.
