James "Jim? D. DeHaven, 70, of 1044 Emmons Street, Hiawatha died Saturday, August 23, 2003, in St. Luke?s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a sudden illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 27, 2003, at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Marion, by the Rev. Dave Miller and Rev. Charles Johnson. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial: Buck Creek Cemetery in Hopkinton.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret; his children, Jerry DeHaven and wife Annette of Virginia, Illinois, Karen Oliver and husband John of the Hill Air Force Base in Utah, Don DeHaven and wife Dina of Cedar Rapids, Alan DeHaven of Hiawatha, Kristy Schoon of Marion and Randy Schoon and Connie Steichen and husband Travis of West Palm Beach Florida; a brother, John DeHaven and wife Martha; two sisters, Carol Smith and husband Jim and Diane Ricci and husband Ray, all of the St. Paul, Minnesota area.

Also surviving are six grandchildren, Sarah, Krystle, T.J., Donna, Ryder and Amy. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Gary.

Jim was born to Harold C. and Thelma Ekren DeHaven on November 2, 1932, in St. Paul, Minnesota. On June 8, 1957, in Northwood, Iowa, he was united in marriage to Margaret "Dixie? Miles. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict as a Staff Sergeant with the Airborne Rangers. Jim was employed at Universal Engineering from 1972 until his retirement in 1996, where he was a welder and service representative. Jim had been attending Northbrook Baptist Church in Cedar Rapids and was a member of the 187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team.

A memorial fund has been established in Jim?s memory.
