James Edward Butler, 55, of Davenport, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, April 24, 2004, in his home, following a heart attack. Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 28, 2004, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Diana Hoover. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today (Tuesday) April 27, 2004, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Sheri; his son, Clark of Davenport; his daughter, Lisa Stokes and fiancé Robert Daugherty of Chicago, Illinois; two grandchildren, Ellis and Braeden; two sisters, Judy Turney and Regina (Chris) Georgulos, both of Chicago; a brother, Terry Butler of Chicago; and his mother-in-law, Virginia Abney of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Jerry Butler.
James was born July 14, 1948, the son of James and Mae (Reese) Butler, in Arkansas. He served with the United States Air Force. On July 10, 1981, James was united in marriage to Sheri Lynne Abney in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He worked all his life in the welding industry, most currently with Miller Welding Supply. James enjoyed working in the yard and collecting coins.
