James L. “Jim” Broghammer, 85, of Manchester, Iowa, died Monday, April 10, 2017. Visitation: 2:00 – 7:00 p.m., Sunday, April 16, 2017, at Bohnenkamp – Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester, with a 2:00 p.m. Scripture Service, and one hour prior to Mass at the church on Monday. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 17, 2017, St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Manchester. Burial: St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Manchester.
Jim was born May 26, 1931, in Decorah, Iowa, the son of Ernest and Eulalia (Moser) Broghammer. He was a graduate of St. John’s High School in Ryan, Iowa. Jim served honorably in the United States Army and was a Korean War Veteran. On February 8, 1956, Jim married Anna “Marie” Mulvehill at Immaculate Conception Church in Masonville. Together they farmed for over 34 years. Following, Jim served as the secretary, treasurer and caretaker of the Manchester Cemetery Company for nearly 20 years, for both Oakland and St. Mary’s Catholic Cemeteries. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and the Ryan American Legion.
Jim is survived by his wife, Marie Broghammer of Manchester; children, Tom (Diane) Broghammer of Central City, Betty (Steve) Eckebrecht of Valrico, Florida, Kay (David) Johnson of Sunnyvale, California, Carol (Tom) Krogmann of Manchester, and Bill (Cheri) Broghammer of Anamosa; thirteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; one brother, Tony Broghammer of Manchester; one sister, Ann (Leon) Neimann of Lakewood, Colorado; brother-in-law, Don (Betty) Mulvehill of Pleasant Hill; sister-in-law, Eileen (Tom) Brunow of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; sisters-in-law, Delrose Broghammer, Catherine Quint and Peggy Mulvehill; and brother-in-law, Vernon Quint.
