James K. (Jim, Coach, Jeff) Barnes of Cedar Rapids, passed away February 1 at Cottage Grove Place, Cedar Rapids, IA. Murdoch-Linwood Fuernal Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids assisted the family.

James was born August 7, 1936, in Oskaloosa to James F. & Mary J (Kaprich) Barnes. After living in several towns in Eastern Iowa, he graduated High School from West Union High, class of 1952. He attended Upper Iowa university in Fayette Iowa. He then found his way to Cedar Rapids and became a life-long Auto Sales Consultant (AKA Car Salesman) for many area dealerships, finally retiring from Mark Zimmerman Ford.

In 1962 James was united in marriage to Fatima Kalell on February 3rd, a union which produced his two loving children, Jeffrey and Julie. They later divorced.

In 1980, he married Cheryl (Brown) Barnes and spent the last 44 years happily together.

James was an avid golfer, fisherman, card player, and a mentor to many who had struggles in their lives. He always took the time to help those in need with a kind word and good life advice.

James is survived by his children; Jeffrey Barnes of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Julie Lambert (Reese) of Phoenix, AZ; his grandchildren Jessica Johnson (Brian) of Marion, IA, Chelsea Barnes of Cedar Rapids, IA, Spencer Barnes of Seattle, WA, Hunter (Kristin) Lambert of Manhattan Beach, CA, Hudson Lambert of Dallas, TX, and Hagan Lambert of Phoenix, Arizona; His great grandchildren, Wyatt Johnson, and Anabelle Stiers: his brother Edward (Virginia) Barnes, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and brother, Maj. Richard J. Barnes (Ardith) USMC, Retired

Per Jim’s request there will be no services. In lieu of flowers and cards, memorials in his name are to be directed to Dogs Forever or The Fellowship Club in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
