James "Jim? A. Daniel, 78, of 310 5th Avenue SE, Cedar Rapids, died Monday, February 28, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, following after a brief illness. Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 3, 2005, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Gary Dobbins, with military honors.
Survivors include two daughters, Marsha Vogel and husband Mike, and Donna Simons, all of Cedar Rapids; extended families, Horst (Anna Marie) Bohn and Volker (Marion) Kasper of Germany; his grandchildren, Shannon DeVore, Brandi (Craig) Stone, Ben (Sarah) Vogel, Noah Simons, Angela and Julia Bohn; two great-grandchildren, Jonathan & Rhylee Stone; a sister, Corey (Grant) Marti of Dubuque; a sister-in-law, Methel Daniel; and special friend, Kathy.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, LaMae; a brother, Calvin Daniel; a sister, Jean Melson; and a son-in-law, Harvey Simons.
Jim was born July 14, 1926, the son of James Isaac and Annie Belle (Melson) Daniel in Neal, Alabama. He served with the United States Army during World War II. On January 16, 1946, he married LaMae Bates in Midway, Alabama. Together since kindergarten and married for 55 years and longtime residents of Cedar Rapids, Jim and LaMae owned City TV Service. He enjoyed traveling, playing cards and bowling.
