Jack E. Kaplan, 61, of 2516 Summerwood Ct. SW, Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, July 27, 2005, at St. Luke?s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a long illness. Services: 1:30 p.m. Monday, August 1, 2005, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Nick Longworth. The family will greet friends from 3 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 31, 2005, at the funeral home, where a Moose Ritual Service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Burial: Czech National Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret; two daughters, Donna (Craig) Bender of Cedar Rapids and Kristin (Brian) Sekafetz of Iowa City; three grandchildren, Jordan Sekafetz, Brianna and Morgan Bender; a brother, Dennis (Joyce) Kaplan of Richardson, Texas; and a sister, Susan Williams of Houston, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Jack was born July 30, 1943, the son of Lumir and Roberta Nemec Kaplan, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A 1961 graduate from Jefferson High School, he was united in marriage to Margaret Howell in Cedar Rapids on September 28, 1962. Jack worked in drafting and later in configuration management at Rockwell Collins, J-Tec and Square D. A member of the Iowa City Moose Lodge 1096, he enjoyed H.O. trains and racing, especially Dale Earnhardt. Jack?s favorite love was being with his grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Cedar Valley Humane Society in memory of Jack.
A reception will be held at the Cedar Rapids Moose Lodge following the graveside service.
