Rev. Jack Ray Hooten, Sr., of Fairfax, Iowa, died Thursday, November 1, 2007, in his home, following a brief illness. Services: 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 5, 2007, at the Sharon United Methodist Church, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Robert Dagit, Rev. Jack Kendall and Rev. James Hanke. The family will greet friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, November 4, 2007, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include his children, Anita (Dan) Barber of Miles City, Montana, JR Hooten of Cedar Rapids and Lynda Lanus of Fairfax; four grandchildren, Breanna Barber, Paige Barber, Tess Hooten and Maggie Hooten; and a brother, Roy Hooten of Raytown, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, George and Novella Hooten and Esther and Paul Clemmons; his parents, Emanual and Vivian; four sisters, Inez Fulton, Irene Clymore, Lois Hollenbach and Margaret Guyett; and a granddaughter, Courtney Lanus.

Jack was born October 26, 1933, the son of Emanual and Vivian (Clemmons) Hooten, in Exeter, Missouri. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Upper Iowa University and had received the State of Iowa Governor’s Volunteer Award. On June 27, 1959, Jack was united in marriage to Thelma Gowing. She died October 17, 1998. For 58 years, Jack was a United Methodist Pastor, retiring from the Sharon United Methodist Church and serving in many capacities following retirement.
