Jack M. Broxey, 77, of 1039 F Avenue NW, died Monday, October 28, 2002, in his home, following a long illness. Services: 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 1, 2002, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Chaplain Christine Wagner-Hecht of Hospice of Mercy, with military rites. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, October 31, 2002, at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Alice; his daughter, Sheryl McFall and husband Bob of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Stacy Sponsel, Laura, Jacklyn and Bobbie McFall; four great-grandchildren, Alex and Kaitlyn Sponsel, Austin McFall and Jackson McFall; a brother, Orval Broxey of Cedar Rapids; and a sister, Barbara Holtz of Winthrop.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Charles, Kenneth, Bud, Clifford, Loren and Dean; and sisters, Josephine Rose, Gladys Gladwin, Goldie Bemer, Helen Broxey and Mary Broxey.
Jack was born April 6, 1925, the son of William and Fanny (Dolley) Broxey, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He served with the United States Army as a Staff Sergeant during World War II. Jack fought front line infantry at Battle of the Bulge and at Normandy. He was captured as a prisoner of war in September, 1944, and returned home in November, 1945. On September 27, 1948, Jack was united in marriage to Alice Humphreys in Cedar Rapids.
He worked at Wilson?s as a meat cutter for 43 years. Jack enjoyed fishing and hunting and loved to go to the cabin on weekends at Buenie. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the VFW 788 and P3 Retirees.
