Ivan Laverne Newland

Ivan LaVerne Newland, 80, of 4046 Central City Road, Center Point, died Sunday November 27, 2005, in the Hiawatha Care Center following a long illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 30, 2005, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point, by the Rev. John Caughron. Visitation: 4-8 p.m., Tuesday, November 29, 2005, at the funeral home with family members present from 6-8 p.m. Burial: Center Point Cemetery with military honors.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte; daughter, Muriel "Murt? McDowell (Tom Petersen) of Boone, Iowa; son, Roger (Mary) Newland of Marshalltown; his grandchildren, Chad (Rachel) McDowell and Brian (Monica) McDowell; four great-grandchildren, Jordan, Dylan, Mikayla, and Hailey McDowell; two sisters, Myrna Schamel of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Kay (Jack) Clyde of Center Point; three nephews and six nieces.
Ivan was born March 4, 1925, the son of De Claude and Beaulah (McArthur) Newland in Center Point, Iowa. On April 28, 1946, he was united in marriage to Charlotte Horak in Center Point. Ivan served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and farmed for over 53 years. For 58 years he was a member of the Center Point American Legion Dye Benion Post #297.
