Ivan L. Fry
July 19, 1927 — May 29, 2009
Ivan L. Fry, 81, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, May 29, 2009, at Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Services: 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 1, 2009, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids by Rev. Ed Powers. Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Graveside Service: 1:30 p.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with military honors.
Survivors include his children, Vicky (Dennis) Pollock of Solon, Jerry (Ann) Fry of Frisco, Texas, and Peggy McArtor (Neal) Johnson of Cedar Rapids; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and a sister, Bonnie Evans of Rock Island.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Patricia; a daughter, Katy Louise; two brothers, Dean and Glenn Fry; and a brother-in-law, Ed Evans.
Ivan was born July 19, 1927, the son of Orval and Mina (Faas) Fry in North English. On September 27, 1953, he married Patricia Nicola in Washington, Iowa. She died October 18, 2007. Ivan served with the U.S. Army, Navy, and Iowa State Guard during WWII. Ivan used his God-given talents to help build Asbury Retirement Home, Asbury Day Care, as well as numerous other homes and projects. Ivan first worked for Universal Engineering for 16 years, later at Goss Engineering and finally retiring from Quaker Oats after 24 years.
