Iva Jean Soukup, 83, a resident of Hiawatha Care Center, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, March 23, 2013, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Dan Peterson. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, at the funeral home. Burial: Dunkard Cemetery, rural Toddville.
Survivors include her brother, Bob (Deanea) Soukup of Central City; nephew, Nathan (Marilyn) Soukup and niece, Kim (Tom) Chambers, both of Alburnett; her great-nephew and great-nieces, Chad (Katie) Soukup, Polly (Jeff) Loneman and Ashley Chambers; and two great-great-nephews, Grant and Gavin Soukup.
Iva Jean was born March 26, 1929, the daughter of Fred and LaVerna (Krouse) Soukup, in Center Point, Iowa. Although she had no children of her own, she touched the lives of countless children during her many years as a teacher. Iva Jean taught school for Vinton, Charles City, Osage and College Community School Districts. She attended the Asbury United Methodist Church and was a member of the Western Fraternal Life Lodge #160.
Iva Jean enjoyed her luncheons with retirees, traveling, shopping and watching Iowa Girls and Boys Basketball.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the Hospice House and to Millie, the housekeeper, and nursing staff at the Hiawatha Care Center, for all of their compassion and loving care.
