Iva M. Gruel, 79, a resident of Heritage Nursing & Rehab Center, died Monday, February 3, 2003, at St. Luke?s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a long illness. Services: 10:00 a.m., Thursday, February 6, 2003, at St. John?s Lutheran Church, Farmersburg, Iowa, by Rev. Bruce Hanson. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, February 5, 2003, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids and from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., at the church on Thursday. Burial: Farmersburg Wagner Cemetery, Farmersburg.
Survivors include her daughters, Janet A. Flanagan of Rockford, Ill., Carol J. (John) Geisbauer of Yorba Linda, CA, and Nancy L. Simon, of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren, Cory and Shay Flanagan and Tim Simon; and two sisters, Vernida Wall and Mary J. Johnson of Dubuque, IA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd; her parents; and a sister, Eloise Koppes.
Iva was born March 23, 1923, in St. Olaf, Iowa, the daughter of Elmer and Redena (Ohloff) Klinkenberg. She married Floyd J. Gruel in Farmersburg, IA, on December 3, 1941. Iva was a farmwife and worked as Head Housekeeper at the Sheraton Hotel in Cedar Rapids for 12 years. She served as the activity director for the Witwer Senior Center and HACAP.
Iva was a 4H Club leader and a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids, and St. John?s Lutheran Church in Farmersburg. She enjoyed attending antique shows and collecting.
