Iva Jean Barnes King, 88, of Independence, Iowa, formerly of Walker, Iowa, passed away Saturday, April 28, 2018, at Lexington Estates, Independence. Visitation: 4 – 8 p.m. Monday, April 30, 2018, at Walker United Methodist Church, Walker. Funeral Service: 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 1, 2018, at the church with burial immediately to follow at Walker Cemetery. Pastor Annette K. Ruhs Kruse will officiate. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point, Iowa.
Iva was born February 17, 1930, the daughter of William “Ed” and Florence (Harris) Barnes. She graduated from Clermont High School. Iva married Franklin William King on July 24, 1954, in Cedar Rapids and they spent 62 wonderful years together until he passed away in March of 2017. Iva worked as a waitress and a cook at the 150 Truck Stop. She was a member of Walker United Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. She loved to crochet, play cards, go fishing, and win at Bingo but she loved the moments she shared with her family the most.
Iva is survived by her children, Susan (Kevin) Skolos of Kaukauna, Wisconsin, Thomas (Rose) King of Quasqueton, Iowa and Wayne King of Lamont, Iowa; nine grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; brother, John Barnes of Marshalltown, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Franklin; infant daughter, Mary Jane King; and sister, Gladys Gilchrist.
