Irvin “Ike” Schick, 89, of Ft. Dodge, died Tuesday, February 8, 2011, at Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. A memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 9, 2011 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Ft. Dodge. Burial: Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Des Moines. Arrangements by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include his daughter, Ramona (Chuck) Saunders of Olathe, Kansas; son, Steven (Denise) Schick of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Carol Saunders (Bob Brettrell), Steven (Anna) Saunders, and Sally and Polly Schick; two great-grandchildren Charlotte and Logan Brettell; a sister, Elizabeth Hanson of Ft. Dodge; and beloved family friends, Rich & Patty Patterson of Ft. Dodge.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty; one sister; and six brothers.

Irvin “Ike” Schick, born March 5, 1921 in Fort Collins, Colorado, to German-Russian immigrant parents, Gottfried and Elizabeth Schick. He was proud to be an American and served in WWII as sergeant in the Army artillery stationed in the Philippines. He lived most of his adult life in Fort Dodge. Ike married Betty Anderson in 1948. He owned and operated Ike’s DX until his retirement in 1989. Ike was a long standing member of St Olaf Lutheran Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Ft. Dodge or Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa, in Ike’s memory.
