Irma I. Schweitzer, 81, a resident of Mercy Hallmar, died Tuesday, June 22, 2004, at the care center, following a long illness. Services: 1:30 p.m. Sunday, June 27, 2004, at Bethany Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Joe Polzin. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, June 26, 2004, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include three sisters, Theresa Martinson of Williamsburg, Pearl Kiesling, and Lillian (Roy) Dochterman, both of Cedar Rapids; 14 nieces and nephews; 25 great-nieces and nephews; and 12 great-great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert; five brothers, John, Paul, Hilbert, Herman and David; and a sister, Alvina Schwarting.

Irma was born May 15, 1923, the daughter of Herman and Henrietta Eschenberg Schwarting in Iowa County, Iowa. On January 2, 1946, she was united in marriage to Albert Schweitzer. He died April 20, 2003. For 25 years, Irma worked as a professional employment counselor for private and state agencies. She was an active member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids, where she served as a choir member, cashier and evangelist card ministry. Irma touched many lives and ministered to all who knew her. She will be greatly missed.
