Iris M. Mcelmeel

Iris M. McElmeel, 86, of Earlville, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 at home surrounded by her loving family. Private family funeral will be at the Earlville United Parish by the Rev. Jill Mack, Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Clifton-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Earlville is assisting the family with arrangements
Iris was born April 6, 1934 in Buck Creek Iowa, the daughter of Curtis and Maude (Vesey) Grigg. She graduated from the Buck Creek High School in Buck Creek. After graduation Iris worked in the retail industry and loved working at The Casual Café. She was previously married to Clarence “Hap” Salow;, on February 17, 1990, she married Ernest McElmeel at the St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Monticello, Iowa.
Iris was a very loving mother, grandmother and was full of life that was extended to whoever was around her. She loved to reminisce, have family gatherings and loved to see people’s reactions. Iris will be missed by all because of her infectious personality and willingness to help. Those who are returning the kindness that was exemplified by their grandmother are the following pall bears, Jason Halfhill, Tom, Nick and Mike Salow.
Surviving are her children, Cindy Vargus of Olympia, Washington, Kevin Salow of Dumont, Iowa, Kelly Salow of Delhi, Iowa, Dean (Annette) Salow of Earlville, Tony (Jane) Salow of Earlville, Kim (Kevin) Smith, of Earlville; stepchildren Ernest Jr. “Chuck” (Cary)McElmeel, Jerry McElmeel, Joyce (Don) Hughes, Pam (Mike) Wink; sixteen grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; several step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; siblings, Betty Salow, Mona Salow, Katherine Grigg and special friend Ed Bildstein.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Ernest in 2001; sisters, Nettie Fredrickson, Cornelia Grigg, Ethel Talmadge, Millie Maxwell, Annie Rose; brother, James Grigg; daughter, Tracy Salow; daughter-in-law, Mae Salow; and step son, Billy Joe.
