Irene R. Powell

Irene R. Powell, 95, a resident of Linn Manor Care Center, Marion, formerly of Central City, died Wednesday, December 24, 2003, in the care center following a short illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 29, 2003, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Central City, by Grant Hagen, administrator of Linn Manor Care Center. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 - 7 p.m. Sunday, December 28, 2003. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include a son, Dwayne (Isla) Powell and a daughter, Cathleen (Richard) Shaffer, all of Central City; seven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marguerite Butterfield of Marion.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harlin; two brothers, Paul Fuessley and Albert Fuessley Jr.; and four brothers and sisters who died in infancy.
Irene was born the daughter of Albert and Anna (Werner) Fuessley Sr. on June 2, 1908, in Troy Mills, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Harlin E. Powell on October 12, 1927, in Independence, Iowa. Harlin died May 30, 1991. Irene attended school in Troy Mills and at a rural Linn County school. Her wish then was to take advanced piano lessons and she later taught piano students. Irene was a homemaker and a faithful helper to her husband, Harlin, on the farm.
She enjoyed sewing and gardening but her family was most important to her.
A memorial fund has been established in Irene?s memory.
