Irene M. McGee, 84, of Manchester, Iowa died Friday, October 3, 2003 at the Regional Medical Center, Manchester, Iowa after a short illness.

Funeral Mass will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday, October 6, 2003 at St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Manchester, Iowa with Rev. Msgr. Ralph Simington officiating. The family will greet friends from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Manchester, Iowa and one hour before services at the church on Monday. There will be a VFW service at 3:00 p.m. and a Catholic Daughters Rosary at 5:00 p.m. Burial will be at St. Mary?s Catholic Cemetery in Manchester, Iowa.

Irene was born April 24, 1919, in Cresco, Iowa, the daughter of F. Joseph and Caroline (Riehle) Herold. She attended high school in Cresco, Iowa. Irene was united in marriage to Thomas Earl "Fibber? McGee on July 22, 1940, at Cresco, Iowa. The couple lived in the Cresco, West Union, and Manchester, Iowa areas. From 1965 to 1975 they owned and operated the Arrow Café in Manchester, Iowa. Fibber died September 24, 1998.

Irene was a member of St. Mary?s Catholic Church, the Assumption Choir, St. Vincent?s Study Club, Catholic Daughters of America, VFW and the Manchester American Legion Auxiliary, where she served as past-president. She enjoyed crocheting and playing in her Bridge Clubs, Scrabble, and the piano. Irene was an avid Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeye fan.

Irene is survived by eight children, Joe & Pat McGee of Iowa City, Iowa, Kathy & Ken Springate of Eugene, Oregon, Tom & Sandy McGee of Waukesha, Wisconsin, John & Laurie McGee of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, Patti & Gary Glanz of Manchester, Iowa, Gini & Jim Jordan of Atlantic, Iowa, Coleen & Kent Pech of Overland Park, Kansas, and Carolyn & Tim Cannon of Osceola, Iowa; eighteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and a brother, Charles Herold of Annapolis, Maryland.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Thomas E. "Fibber? McGee, Sr.; an infant grandson; four brothers, Manuel, Orvald, Francis and Conrad Herold; and four sisters, Amelda Herold, Gertrude Riordan, Marie Dunt and Angela Hauber.
