Irene Helen Freeman, 71, of Walker, died Wednesday, October 19, 2005, in her home, following a hard fought battle with ALS (Lou Gehrigs Disease). Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 28, 2005, at Troy Mills Christian Church, by Pastor Les Larson. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, October 27, 2005, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Walker. Burial: Walker Cemetery, Walker.
Survivors include her husband, Glenn; her children, Wendy (Jon Paul) Thibadeau of Gillette, Wisconsin, Brett (Rhonda) Freeman and Bartt (special friend, Kathy Raue) Freeman, all of Walker; her grandchildren, Misty (Al) Carson, David Benesch, Gavin Thibadeau, Shawna Freeman (Chad), Lindsey Freeman, Zachery Freeman and Andrew Freeman; three great-grandchildren, Shane, Kyler and Hailey; and a brother, Robert (Sherrill) Turkal of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Daisy Turkal; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Glenn and Leona Freeman; a son-in-law, Ron Benesch; and a grandson, Greg Thibadeau.
Irene was born April 25, 1934, the daughter of Robert and Daisy Sharf Turkal, in Iowa City, Iowa. On April 13, 1953, she was united in marriage to Glenn H. Freeman, Jr., in Iowa City. Irene worked at the Walker State Bank, Walker Sale Barn and then as a purchasing agent for Lefebure, Century Engineering and K & W Products. She enjoyed gardening, canning, fishing, hunting and going to the boats.Irene also enjoyed playing cards and was hard to beat. She loved dancing and all kinds of music, including listening to the Czech Polka Party every Sunday morning. Irene was a member of the Walker American Legion Auxillary.
A memorial fund has been established in memory of Irene.
